THE ARCHIVE: Mothers membership card (1968)

Mothers nightclub, located on Erdington High Street, played host to an early Led Zeppelin gig in 1969 and several Black Sabbath shows in early 1970. The typed lists of bands that served as flyers bore the legends: “Mothers vibrations society’ and ‘Mothers the home of good sounds’. Advertising in the Birmingham Mail included information on the attractions in addition to the bands such as: “Head sounds by Hairy Rod, poster stall conducted by Fancied Fred’ and invited patrons to: ‘wear what you want to’.

John Peel famously said: ‘…for a few years, the best club in Britain – and it was, because I went to most of them – was right here in Birmingham’. (1997)
