THE ARCHIVE: Lucas Apprentice Cube (1952)

On arrival for his first day as an apprentice Peter Henderson was given a piece of square mild steel, three files and a micrometer. After a week at a work bench in front of a vice he had made this perfect cube with the material. Every apprentice would have spent their first days at the Great Hampton Street school completing their cube. The cube had to be accurate to within two or three 1000th of an inch.
