THE ARCHIVE: Lucas Apprentice Pieces

This is complete set of Lucas’ apprentice tools, also known as pieces. It includes the box itself which was made from scratch by Peter Henderson. Sheet metal and angle iron were cut on a guillotine and the pieces riveted together. Files were used to ensure that there were no gaps in the box edges. It contains pieces including a three square scraper, a die stock tap wrench, centre punches and a screw gauage that Peter used throughout his apprenticeship and working life.

Peter was told by instructors that it was the finest set of apprentice pieces that had been made at the Great Hampton Street Engineering School up until that date.
