V&A archive visit

This week as part our research journey we went to the V&A in London to see what they held in their archive in terms of artefacts that would be relevant for our Home Of Metal exhibition next summer. We uncovered some real gems in cluding this Black Sabbath gig poster from a show played at the Odeon Hammersmith.

A Led Zeppelin poster from when they headlined at Knebworth Park in August 1979, alongside Chas & Dave and Fairport Convention, a pretty eclectic line up to say the least.

A Led Zeppelin T-shirt from Earls Court in May 75, it’s really pretty amazing that someone at the V&A had the foresight to contact people in the music industry to collate these types of artefacts way back in the late 70’s – 80’s. This is the very reason we started our archive as so little is held in museums and library archives around the subject of ‘Heavy Metal’ and particarly those bands that came from the West Midlands.
