Set list from Ozzy show at Town Hall Birmingham – what a treat – Into The Void + Paranoid!
HE USUALLY plays arenas and massive outdoor festivals so it was a real treat for fans to see Ozzy performing in the relatively intimate environment of Birmingham Town Hall.
He last played the venue with Black Sabbath in 1972, a red letter event in the band’s history because a photo from the gig was used on the inside sleeve of their hit album Black Sabbath Vol 4.
It was a real homecoming for Aston-born Ozzy who chose the Town Hall show to celebrate the release of his latest solo album, Scream, with 400 free tickets being given away to fans who queued at HMV in the city centre earlier in the day.
But any fears that this would be an evening of just new music were swept aside as Oz opened with Bark At The Moon and cruised through solo hits like Mr Crowley, Suicide Solution and Crazy Train.
Looking healthy and fit, and in good voice, he also treated fans to Black Sabbath classics like Iron Man and Paranoid, slotting just one track from Scream, Let Me Hear You Scream, into the 90 minute set.
His young band were red hot, especially guitarist Gus G and drummer Tommy Clufetos who were both allowed solo spots.
The historic l surroundings didn’t stop Ozzy carrying out his traditional gimmick of throwing buckets of water over the audience, but it was probably lucky for him that when he tried to soak wife Sharon, seated in the balcony, he missed by a mile.
Welcome home, Oz!
