Dudley is renowned for its geology and the Black Country for the ingenuity and skill of its craftspeople. Metal celebrates the links between metal manufacturing in the Black Country and Heavy Metal music.
This exhibition investigates the occurrence and science of metal with a diverse and beautiful display of minerals and metal ores. Spanning historic times through the industrial revolution to the present day, illustrating the many uses and products made from metal, including how metal makes Heavy Metal music.
‘Metal’ is supported by a smaller exhibition that looks at the history of the borough before the use of metals become widespread.
