The Exhibition

This is the cassette fan Chris Hopkins Dad gave him for Christmas when he was 8 years old of Black Sabbath’s Paranoid with a cassette player – he’s been a fan ever since.

From humble beginnings in 1960s Aston, Birmingham, Geezer Butler, Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Bill Ward created Black Sabbath, and in turn, a new musical culture – Heavy Metal.

50 years later Home of Metal celebrates the four original band members, their Birmingham roots, their music and dedicated fan base.

The exhibition will examine the alchemy of the band; dissecting the social history, cultural impact, look and sound of Black Sabbath, asking what it means to be ‘heavy’. Iconic pieces from the band will be on display alongside stories, collections, and over 3000+ portraits from some of their most devoted fans from across the world. Black Sabbath have made a lasting mark on music and popular culture, Home of Metal celebrate this unique legacy.
