Home of Metal Open Day At The Public

For too long the Black Country and Birmingham have failed to celebrate what is rightfully theirs, to claim the region as home of Heavy Metal music.

On Saturday 26 March Home Of Metal takes up residence in The Public and fans of all ages are invited to bring along their memorabilia and stories to be recorded for the digital archive. Home Of Metal is looking for everything from concert tickets to photographs, badges, album covers, t-shirts and flyers relating to Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Judas Priest, Diamond Head, Magnum and Napalm Death.

Hosted by Kerrang! Radio DJ Johnny Doom who will be talking to former ‘Raw Power’ presenter, Ozzfest compere and all round metal expert Krusher. In addition Juneau Projects will be showing you how you can make your very own DIY guitar + loads of rockin fun family activities!

Free event all ages welcome 11am – 4pm

Krusher first came to the public’s attention in 1982 when he became Art Director of the then Bible of Heavy Metal magazine Kerrang! Responsible for designing Ozzy Osbourne ‘Diary of a Madman’, ‘Speak of the Devil’ and ‘Bark at the Moon’, Japan and Black Sabbath ‘Born Again’ album covers.

His work has also included designing and editing the official Donington ‘Monsters of Rock’ programmes since 1986 and he has also compered and DJ’ed the festival in 1994, ’95 and ’96.

In 1992 Krusher became co-presenter along with his Jack Russell terrier Bullseye of ‘Raw Power’ the UK’s only terrestrial TV rock show and voted best TV show in the Kerrang! Readers poll in both ’92 and ’93.

Juneau Projects will work with visitors to create electronic instruments from cardboard. Use cardboard to build your own Telecaster or Flying V, drumkit, keyboard or invent your own instrument. Then add some simple electronics to trigger sound samples, take to the stage and play.

Juneau Projects are artists Ben Sadler and Phil Duckworth. Their work focuses on sound and music as well as sculpture, animaton, painting and photography. They build homemade electronic instruments and have performed at venues such as Latitude festival, The Big Chill and Baltic Gateshead. They have exhibited their artwork at the British Art Show 6, Tate Britain and PS1 New York.
