THE ARCHIVE: Laney Amp

Lyndon Laney, a bass guitarist from Great Barr in North Birmingham, began manufacturing amplification equipment in his father’s shed in response to requests from fellow musicians. He supplied Robert Plant and The Band of Joy with a PA system and following a deal with Jim Simpson, the powerful distortion of Laney amps became a key ingredient in the Black Sabbath sound. Tony Iommi continues to use Laney equipment to this day.

The company, now an internationally renowned brand, remain loyal to their Midlands heritage with their head quarters based in Halesowen.
