Exhibitions

& events that join

the dots between

music, social history,

visual art and fan culture

Home of Metal, created by Capsule, has developed a new chapter, as Metal music’s influence and international reach is finally recognised and embraced. To achieve this, we continually disrupt what traditionally sits in the museum or art gallery, and challenge myths about who the Metal fan is.

The project joins the dots between music, social history, visual art and fan cultures to produce a new perspective on Metal music and a museum for the future.  A perspective that is celebratory, eschews notions of high/low art and joins audiences and performers together.

Home of Metal is devoted to the music that turns up the volume, down-tunes guitars, and introduces a whole new meaning to the word ‘heavy’. We tell the broad and diverse story, from the pioneers of Metal 50 years ago, to the contemporary innovators, celebrating and supporting all that is Metal culture.

We have successfully galvanised international fans, influential global bands, industry figures and the arts and heritage worlds to foster a special place between counter culture, the music industry and contemporary art. We have showcased the diversity of Metal culture and built a case for an emerging Metal museum.

Fan engagement is at the heart of the project, and is a testament to Home of Metal’s authenticity, from our fan portrait project and archive to the central place people’s personal collections hold in our exhibitions. Home of Metal is informed heavily by fans stories. We’ve always celebrated audiences as enthusiastically as we celebrate the biggest bands in the world.
